3 Wheeled Buggies
A 3-wheel buggy is great for off-roading and taking on terrains that is bumpy, like woodland tracks. They are also easier to navigate up and down kerbs as opposed to 4-wheel models.
MadeForMums reviews editor Kath tried one of these 3-wheelers with her newborn and 3 year old daughter, putting it through its paces on the asphalt and on the muddy ground. Read her review here.
Stability
Four-wheel buggies, with their centre of gravity balancing by your child's weight within the seat are generally more stable than three-wheelers. Three-wheel buggies are still worth considering since they can handle anything from rough terrain to busy streets.
Choose a buggy that has large rear wheels, and one that locks on the front. This will make it easier to drive and less likely to snap off when driving on bumpy roads. These all-terrain buggies often have pneumatic tyres as well, which are great at handling uneven surfaces and can even be used on sandy beaches or tracks in woodland.
They are also excellent buggies to run with since they offer excellent stability on more rough terrain and can aid you in staying with your running partner. They are also great for climbing and descending steep kerbs as well, and most of them come with a suspension built in that means your baby will have a pleasant ride.
The main thing that can make a pushchair with three wheels difficult to maneuver is the broad frame, which makes it difficult to squeeze into narrow spaces and tight doors than a four-wheeler. However certain manufacturers have addressed this issue by implementing a clever design that makes the wheels flip up when they are not in use, which reduces their overall size, and allows you navigate through doorways without difficulty.
If yes, look for a lie-flat positioning and also whether the design is compatible with second seats and buggy boards (if you want to add the toddler). If so, ensure that it is in an upright position and if the design is compatible with second-seats and buggy boards (if you'd like to add the toddler to the buggy). A majority of 3-wheelers can fold flat and be put up in a upright position. This is great when you have limited space in your boot or have limited storage at home. However, some will require you to remove the front wheel before folding in order to fit in even smaller spaces.
Manoeuvrability
Three-wheeled buggies generally offer better manoeuvrability than pushchairs with four wheels. They typically come with a swivelling front wheel that allows you to change direction quickly and steer using just one hand. Some models have wheels that lock to offer stability on rough terrain. Some models can be used with an additional seat or buggy board should you decide to grow your family.
If you plan to remove your three-wheeled buggies from the roads that are asphalted it is recommended to choose an option that has pneumatic tyres. They are able to handle the most difficult terrain. These tyres may require pumping up occasionally but they'll be more durable than tyres made of solid rubber and are more likely to be puncture-proof. It is recommended to choose one with an swiveling front wheel that is locked to assist you on tricky surfaces.
When folded, three-wheelers may be more bulky than buggies with four wheels due to the single wheel in front. Check that the model you pick can fit in the boot of your car and can be positioned upright if required. Some models can be folded with one hand and stand up when collapsed. This can save space in the boot of your car.
A well-constructed three-wheeled pushchair can take on any terrain from busy streets to forest tracks. However, it is important to consider what you'll be using it for day-to-day. If you're planning to run the school run, it must be able to cope with steep slopes and kerbs. If you'll be running with it, ensure it has a lockable swivelling'stretch' front wheel to keep the ride safe.
MFM reviewer Kath discovered her three-wheeled buggy able to cope really well with rural and urban walks. She said that it navigated cobbles, rough paths and bumpy pavements easily and was comfortable to jog with too. It's also a great choice for day trips, as it has plenty of storage space, including a huge ample basket with a zip-top cover and an expandable 50+ UV hood. It can be adjusted to meet the needs of babies from birth, including an infant carry cot or a lie-flat seat. It's also compatible with the most well-known stroller seats and second seats.
Fabric Sling Seat
The main difference between a fabric and a modular seat is the fabric sling. It is placed inside the frame of the buggy, instead of being placed on top like the modular chair. This allows for a more ergonomically-correct position for baby, which instantly delivers lower center of gravity that is at the proper height. This in turn makes for an easier push, a less hefty curb pop (you don't need as much weight and effort to pop the buggy over the nose of a curb) and a better stability and balance.
These buggy seats also feature Sling fabrics that are simple to clean and durable. These fabrics were designed specifically for Sling chairs and are highly durable and breathable. These fabrics are also very easy to maintain using mild soap and warm water.
If you're a jogger or you like off-roading, then an all-terrain buggy is more likely to suit your needs than a four-wheel buggy. These models generally have a larger base, more stable, and utilise tyres with air to ensure smooth, easy movement on rough ground.

A lot of modular seating systems include removable cushions, making it easy to clean spills or stain.

3-wheel buggies offer more stability than strollers with four wheels, which makes them ideal for off-road or all-terrain adventures. The large, highly maneuverable front wheel allows for smooth and swift movement. The tyres that are typically filled with air and have suspension, offer a comfortable ride on the most difficult trails and roads. The wheels are not as close to the ground on these pushchairs as they are with four wheeled pushchairs. This makes them perfect for walking uphill.
